William Q. Wick papers, 1966-1989.

The speeches include conference papers, opening remarks and addresses, congressional testimony, and notes. The focus of the testimony is the re-authorization of Sea Grant funding and support of the National Aquaculture Organic Act. Series II consists of articles and essays (both in reprint and final draft form) submitted to journals and magazines. Among the topics addressed in these articles include: estuaries, marine extension education, coastal zone management, and the Pacific Sea Grant Advisory Program. The correspondence primarily pertains to Wick's appointment as Director of the Sea Grant program, attendance of conferences and meetings, receipt of awards, and communication with long-time colleagues. Series IV contains newspaper clippings from the Tillamook Headlight-Herald, Salem Statesman-Journal, and Ocean Industry Magazine pertaining to Wick's appointment as Sea Grant Director, receipt of awards, and appearance at various meetings and workshops. The two certificates were awarded to Wick by the Corvallis Kiwanis Club and the Salem Lions Club for his appearance as a guest speaker. The photographs consist of two prints of a portrait photograph of Wick.

Born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, in 1927, William Wick came to Oregon State College to study fish and game management and received both B.S. and M.S. degrees in 1950 and 1952, respectively. First employed by OSU in 1960 as an Extension Service Agent for Tillamook County, Wick left seven years later to work at the OSU Marine Science Center in Newport. The OSU Sea Grant program was established on Feb. 20, 1968 as a result of the National Sea Grant Program and College Act of 1966. It was the first and largest of three programs set up at that time.
